Hi,
I have been using SME for sometime at home, but now I am considering using it for a business. One thing that is still under consideration is the ability of SME server to act as a PPP server. I need some of the users to be able to dialup to the SME server using their modems at home, and allow them to have Internet access, much like they do it when they buy dialup access from some ISP.
Is this possible? If yes, then could someone point me to relevant informtion.
Thank.
Darius.

Hi,
This works very well for me -- I have a bunch of salespeople dialing up to SME servers using standard windows dial-up.
To get it to work, find and install the following files on the sme..
mgetty-1.1.30-0.7.i386.rpm
e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm
just do a regular rpm -ivh command to install them and then look at the sme menu, it'll have two new menu items -- one to add modems and the other to say which users are allowed to dial into the modems.

It sure sounds easy.
Thank you for your response.

Wish I could get this working :-(
Mgetty rpm installs fine.... problem is the Dial up RPM..
[root@whislinux1 server_rpms]# rpm -Uvh e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm
e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm: read manifest failed: Success
No idea but no good on my SME Server 6.0.1-01.

Since its not an upgrade perhaps
rpm -ivh

rpm -ivh
First install command I tried....
[root@whislinux1 server_rpms]# rpm -ivh e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm
e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm: read manifest failed: Success
This is why I hate RPM's better sticking with source. :-?

e-smith-dialin-0.4-4.noarch.rpm is not a requirement for this type of setup. It gives you a nice web page to set up the tty port etc.
You could have a look at the ppp howto and hand edit the files youself.

Thanks for that, just interested why you get that error, not something I have came across before, forum search shows that others have had it in the past and no resolution was found. I have not got the time to investigate further but if anyone reading this has encountered this errs and resolved it, I would be intested in your feed back
Regards.

well I installed it fine, which is good. :)

a)delete it (both mgetty and e-smith thing)
b)modify it so it doesnt tell me some inittab thing is missing?
any help would be very much appereciated
