Hi Everyone,
So I thought my server was ready to migrate my 12+ domains and emails over from my current provider, now I'm not so sure.
As a test, I migrated the least used domain and activated one email account (I'm hosting my SME locally). I pointed my external DNS to the box and even created a backup MX record just in case.
As a test, I used dnsreport.com to make sure I had set everything up properly. The report shows both my primary and secondary dns are resolving properly, and that both of my mx records are 'known'.
However, it says it cannot connect to my primary mail server (ie the one on the SME box).
Now, I know my mail server is active (I was able to receive email before I hooked up the backup mx). But I suppose what is worrying me is that is could be that dnsreport can't 'see' my IP from its location? Though, if that was the case then the report would fail to see the webserver right?
Any ideas? I'm starting to wonder if the failure to ping the mail server is just part of the security of SME?
Can anyone else run a report from dnsreport and see if their mail servers resolve??
Thanks everyone,
Geoffrey
