Hello,
I had a lightning strike on a tree next to the house and it took out my ISDN modem and two analogue modems hanging off that. One of these modems (a USR) connects my SME 6.01 server to the net and also my network to the net. I replaced the modem with a cheap and cheerful modem (Web Excel?) and now after a reboot and a modem reset it will dial-up fine but after a disconnect (10 hours from ISP)it will not connect or even go OH. I rebuilt the machine with 6.5B2 and same problem and I just downloaded the modem control RPM and hopefully use that to reset the modem remotely.
I have tried several different init strings but with no luck so far. Would anyone have experience of this modem and what init strings would you use?
Incidently, and quite OT the strike also took out the power supply on my workstation that's connected to a UPS and also blew the motherboard. UPS's don't seem to be all they're cracked up to be?
Cheers
Stephan.

Hi Brookes
Do you live in the uk as i have a ISDN modem hayes 128 ta standing idle on the shelf used on sme server i have moved up to broadband. Contact me if interested through forum.
As for your lightening strike it can jump though the phone line the protection on mine i use is a Zymax lighting and surge barrier that fit in the phone line if it senses high voltage it trips out to stand alone earthline. http://www.zymax.com/products.htm#zd
