Hello there.
I'm trying to make a VPN connection to a sme 6.0 via pptp but it won't work.
The error message I get is:
The remote system is required to authenticate itself but I couldn't find any suitable secret (password) for it to use to do so.
I also get the message INIT: Id "pptp" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
What is going wrong?

Hi Ronald
does your SME's /etc/inittab file contain a pptp entry which says EXACTLY:
pptp:357:respawn:/usr/sbin/pptpd -f
Also, have you done anything different to the pptp installation ?
What version of windows are you trying to connect with ? Have you updated the Dial-up-networking to DUN 1.4 if using Win98 ?

Ok I checked the file which seemed to be correct.
Then I updated DUN to 1.4 and now my VPN connection seems to be working.
I will start working with VPN to get some experience.
So thanks for your responce.
