Title: Strange Things Happening

About four days ago, Some strange things started happening.  

My Clam AV is set to run nightly, but it did not run for some reason 3 days ago.  Then I started seeing a strange break in the system monitor, Strange, I have never seen this happen.

I dont think my clamAV is running properly, so I am going to send some test files.  At this point I am stumbling in the dark.

Does it not stop at the point when it gets its updates?
I'm pretty sure I've seen the SME accessing updates at a similar time after midnight.

Just a thought.

I do not know if it is occuring because of updates.  I cannot find anything out of the ordinary in the log files that would tell me that is the case.

That is most likely due to insufficient memory, add more RAM. The processes that are running have used up all your RAM and swap file (at that time).
After the server has "slowly" finished those tasks it recovers & returns to more normal behaviour.
You will probably see something in /var/log/messages for that particluar date and time eg
Out of memory....
