Title: Patching XP service pack 2 to work with sme as a domain

I have been told i need to patch XP for it to work with SME correctly can anyone help???

Its a registry change rather than a patch .....

If you have a 'current' SME build - I think 6.0 up, (but this may work on 5.6 or even 5.5) just browse to

http://your-sme-server/server-resources/regedit/

and then  right-click / saveas on the winxplogon.reg file. (In IE you may even be able to just open it direct from the webpage) save it to the desktop and then double-click it, you do want to merge it into the registry.

Once its in you can join the domain. It makes one tiny registry tweak that MS tightened in XP. The file contains the following entries:

REGEDIT 4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters]
"RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000

I don't remember (because I did it about 2 years ago) but you may have to reboot the XP machine to have the  change take effect.

The http://your-sme-server/server-resources/regedit/ address is not accessible from the internet side so this needs to be done via the LAN, or download the file and email it / take it on a disk / write it down(!)
