Title: VPN - which implementation?
Post by: rickjones on February 19, 2005, 02:46:23 PM
I'd like to set up a site-to-site VPN between SME 6.0 servers. AFAICS the main options are to use the contribs for either IPSEC-FreeS/WAN or OpenVPN.

Can anyone offer comparisons - ease of installation & configuration, reliability, etc? Ease of management is important as I'll be passing that onto someone else once it's set up.

I haven't set up this kind of VPN before, my knowledge is limited to single-client connections using PPTP.

TIA

Until SME has site to site VPN's as a standard feature, I would suggest using a separate VPN device.

I've used IPCOP on inexpensive hardware as a firewall/VPN server. Very easy to use and actively supported like SME.

SME on the inside with IPCOP 1.4.x on the outside is perfect for multisite companies.

Good Luck
