Hi guys,
I been using SME for 5 years now and I just love it.
Now however i have some problems with POP3 collecting.
My onkel use an SME 6.01 as a dedicated gateway and uses Ms Outlook to fetch mail from his ISP.
He specifyes the ISP's pop3 server and ISP's outgoing mailserver in outlook.
He in not using SME for mail at all.
But when he tries to collect mail from his ISP he gets this error from the SME's qmail logfiles
@400000004210c08d194f1294 starting delivery 9: msg 3620880 to remote somename@company.com
@400000004210c08d194f35bc status: local 0/10 remote 9/20
@400000004210c08e157dbf44 delivery 3: deferral: Sorry,_I_wasn't_able_to_establish_an_SMTP_connection._(#4.4.1
Why is SME trying to establish an SMTP connection when he has tell Outlook to go direct to the ISP's servers?

Greetings,
Are you sure the gateway is functioning normally? From your Windows machine, are you able to go to a Command Prompt and successfully ping your ISP's mail server?
Also, regarding the SMTP, if you go to the SME Server Manager and click on email, you can enter a SMTP server that should be used instead of SME's.
Are you sure you haven't made any recent changes to the email settings?
Good luck!

Yupp i can ping both ISP mail servers

Yupp I know, but I don't want to use SME to send mail. I have specified the ISP SMTP outgoing server in Outlook, so SME should't interfere with the mail at all.

I haven't, but my onkel maybe has.... I suspect that is somtehing wrong with the Outlook client.
As i said, this is a very strange error....
However,
I installed fetchmail and let SME handle the mail exchange with the ISP and then reconfigured Outlook to use IMAP to SME. And that worked!?
This was done after the original error occured.
I have worked with SME a quite long time now and I have nerever seen this before.

Yupp! that solve the problem.
Nice feature when you know it. I upgraded the server to 6.01 two month ago and my onkel complained that he could't send mail two days ago.... :-o
Thanks for the help guys.
