Title: Crash under installation
Post by: svksvk on March 01, 2005, 05:54:26 PM
After the format /boot sequence the installation crashes. I can see "the package installation bar" but black text says:

"install exited abnormally -- received signal 11"

Using SME 6.5RC1 i386.
Same error on 6.0.1 though.

Hardware:
AsRock K7S41GX motherboard (newest bios revision (2.00)) Onboard lan, sound & graphics.
AMD Sempron 2400+
256 MB ram. Unknown model.
80 GB harddrive.
3com 3c509 adapter (PCI)

I've disabled lan, serial and parrallel ports, sound but still no luck.

Suspect the hardware. Does memtest86 show any RAM issues? Create a bootable CD from ISO at ultimatebootcd.com and try it.

Ok. I'll try that later today.

But the computer has run Win2000 server for a longer period of time without any problems.

Thanks.

I've tested with memtest, and the burn-in test on the ultimatebootcd. But no errors. I can't the the harddrive cause it's an Excelstor and they haven't got an test utility.

Other ideas?

Only other thing I can think of is that the ISO didn't burn correctly. I've seen that happen. Fixed by using a different brand.
I have no experience of 6.5 (yet) but you might want to verify the ISO checksum when you burn it (against the published checksum on the download site).
