I'm having problems with two SME-servers these days and one is suffering from "unsynchronised" mirrored HDs and will not boot.
I'm able to boot the machine via Knoppix 3.7 and can browse files/directories under the various ibays, but the information I want to copy is of course in a "locked" directory ...
Can anyone guide me towards being able to mount/access this info somehow and then copy it?
I do have valid user names/passwords, but don't know how to procede.
Should I create a user on the rescue distro with the same user name and password and/or is there a preferred solution.
TiA!

This maybe a stupid question, but while running on the livecd did you switch to su in a terminal before trying to access those directories?

Hi Terje,
Knoppix FAQ:

I just read that faq.. Terje can still switch to su in a terminal then mount the device using "mount -o rw <device> <mount point>" instead of mounting it using the desktop.
this overrides what is in the fstab as well

The "trick" turned out to be being root in Knoppix 3.7 (not su, not a user with permissions), as root probably is the same uid on most systems.
I succeeded copying the files to another HD and saved the files.
Thanks!
