Title: SATA Raid
Post by: meekrob on March 04, 2005, 08:06:43 PM
Hi,

I've got a Dell SC420 entry level server with a SATA raid.  When I try to install SME server I get a message stating that no hard drives were found, do I want to install additional drivers?  When I click yes (or no) the installation continues for a short while and reboots.  I have drivers for Redhat Enterprise 3 in RPM format.

Am I going to be able to get SME server up and running on this platform?

No!
SME does not support SATA (yet).
Switch to IDE.
Some have a got it working but I advise against using this in a production environment.
If you search the forum you will find some more answers.

IMO there is little to compare so here's my outlook:
"6.5" is patched up legacy code ... but good work from a dedicated developer (Thanks Shad)
"7.0" is alpha still but very promising, hopefully it will be the future of SMESERVER - running on new hardware (SATA) with a current kernel - (Thanks Charlie)
