Hi all,
I have a SMC9452TX gigabit NIC that I want to intall in a SME6.01 box.
The intructions tell me to the the following.
#tar zxvf sk98lin2x.tar.gz
#cd sk98lin
#make
#insmod sk98lin.o
#ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1
When I run make it comes up with the error linux kernel source not found (or words to that effect)
another problem I can forsee is how do I get the modual to install when the comptuer is reset.
Thanks,
Brad

You'll need the SME Development Tools RPMs

You could always see if SME recognises your new NIC by running options 2 - Configure This Server (SME 6.0.1) from the server console.
Run through the setup as you did when you first installed and select the NIC if it's available.
I did this with a netgear gigabit NIC and the server picked it up as a Realtek|RTL-8169 (driver r8169)
If this doesn't work you will need the SME Development Tools RPMs as CheahCH suggested.
Then you will go through the above and select your NIC and then reboot.

Can anyone tell me where I can get this from?
I have 2 SME boxes that I want to put this network card in. 6.01 and 6.5 RC1 while the sk98lin.o file is there and is selectable from configure your computer under admin logon It wont select or comes up with errors in both boxes.
I have a fear that stuffing around may stop my box from working. Should I do this in a test situation first?

I wouldn't bother unless you really need a gigabit nic. And even then, I'd recommend you use one for which the driver already exists. There are a dozen different supported Intel gigabit NICs, for instance.
