Title: P3 933Mhz File Server
Post by: calisun on March 22, 2005, 08:24:43 AM
I am so excited about SME server that I was showing it off to my friend. He liked it so much, that he wants me to install it in his office as a file server. He wants me to install it on one of the older machines he has in the office. It is HP P3 933Mhz, 512 Meg Ram. Is that machine fast enough to be a file server for 8 users, or should I tell him to get something newer?
It would be file server for business applications only. Firewall/ DHCP functions are provided by the router.

that is just fine, I got a fileserver/internal testing web server running on a box of the same spec and it handles it just fine.

That is a very nice spec.
I have several servers setup in different offices.
One of em is a P2-350 with about 200Mb RAM.
It serves about 7 users.
