My SME server 6.01 has been up and running for more than a year. I regularly log into my webmail from different sites. Today I got this message from the server:
-----------------------------------------------------
/etc/cron.daily/conf-mod_ssl:
2985 semi-random bytes loaded
Generating RSA private key, 1024 bit long modulus
.++++++

e is 65537 (0x10001)
Using configuration from /usr/share/ssl/openssl.cnf
You are about to be asked to enter information that will be incorporated
into your certificate request.
What you are about to enter is what is called a Distinguished Name or a DN.
There are quite a few fields but you can leave some blank
For some fields there will be a default value,
If you enter '.', the field will be left blank.
-----
Country Name (2 letter code) [GB]:State or Province Name (full name) [Berkshire]:Locality Name (eg, city) [Newbury]:Organization Name (eg, company) [My Company Ltd]:Organizational Unit Name (eg, section) []:Common Name (eg, your name or your server's hostname) []:Email Address []:
-----------------------------------------------------
I never saw this before. What is happening?
Regards
Erik

Recently while logging on to Webmail I used Firefox to examine the default cert on some of my sme servers and noticed that they are only valid for a year.(Look under details and then validity) Perhaps this is the cause of your server response? Perhaps the cert needs to be renewed? Somebody who has a server running more than year without upgrades may be able to rule this out. Don't really know too much on this subject but like Ray, I would like to know.

The cert is probably not it. The people who use webmail always get the question if the certifier is trusted, and we clikc yes and move forward. A few times I have installed the cert in the browser (a long time ago), but I never got this message anyway.
I just want to be sure that this could not be an effect of someone trying something nasty with the server from the Internet.
Regards
Bodolf

The message tells you that a new certificate was generated. The previous one had expired.
