Title: looking for a good CRM that runs on SME
Post by: Texasboy on March 27, 2005, 10:51:04 PM
I am looking for a simple CRM to help track a few networking customers. I need to be able to keep some secure data in it like, admin password, ip address, general config info. I need a central place for all this networking info and any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks

Thanks Arne

Looks interesting and I like the timecard part for tracking time spent on the projects. How hard was it to install and maintain?

thanks again

If phprojekt is attractive, you might find EGroupware useful, too - http://www.egroupware.org/

Title: Which package to install??
Post by: ghost_dog on March 30, 2005, 02:59:21 AM
Hi People,
I have just installed SME and have never seen or touched any linux varient in my life. I am really interested in the CRM that you mentioned, e-groupware but was wondering what package to download and install on it and how?
How would I grab it usingt he sme server machine itself? Or should I d/l it and copy it to an info bay?

I know that I am a completely useless newby but am keen to get away from all things MS!!

Thanks in advance,

Ghostie

Look at Vtiger CRM 4.0 (http://www.vtiger.com). LAMP based.

Great piece of CRM software and have no problem installing it in an ibay.

Hey kangkc,
Thanks for your post, but having looked at the both demo's I think I still prefer the egroupware.
As a trial, I am using SME 6.0.1-01. What should I d/l and how should I install? Remember, if you choose to respond (-; I am an absulute newbie......sorry.

Cheers

A long list of files on eGroupware sourceforge  :-( ... For my case I download the tar ball : eGroupWare-1.0.00.006-1.tar.gz

Create a ibay and 'untar' the files in the ibay. Follow the installation instruction in eGroupware documents or forum.

I done this a few months back so can't really recall the exact step for a howto but hey...it's up and running.

Search on Contribs.org for eGroupware and I think you should be able to find a contrib fo that...if you think rpm installation is easier.

Have you played around with Vtiger's features ?? In particular the outlook plugin ?

Looks very good !

I installed Vtiger a few months back (6 months ago I think), spent a few days on it and that's about it. Can't really say I have explored all features but at least I managed to sync my Outlook contact with Vtiger. Becareful with the sync though if you install the demo data as the demo contact will sync into the Outlook contact...took me some time to clean that up.

How did the installation go ?

Did you just create an ibay for it and ran it from there ? Outlook plugins are always a bit risky.

The whole package looks pretty slick and full of features. I also had a look at "SugarCRM" but I have not found anyone that's got it going on SME.

I'm running SugarCRM on my SME box. Runs a treat, and seems to import/export reasonably well. I've not gone for the commercial version with the Outlook synch functions, but then again I don't use Outlook.  :-D

No problems installing it into an ibay, runs there at the mo and gets used daily.

kangkc,
A couple of questions:
How did you upgrade Apache to 2.0.52? as this is what Vtiger V4 needs
What version of SME were you using?

Title: vTiger
Post by: wsmeurope on June 03, 2005, 09:03:42 AM
Is somebody can share how to install vTiger on SME 6.5. vTiger is supposed to be compatible with Apache 2, but is it also compatible with the version 1.3 running in SME?

For me, the Thunderbird plug-in is a good reason to swith to vTiger CRM.

wsmeurope,

Vtiger is not compatible with apache 1.3, but apache 2.0.2 comes packaged with Vtiger V4 but fails to load on SME6.5. Anyone know how get around this problem.

Regards,
Jack.

There is no contrib and the apache 2.0.2 with Vtiger won't install on SME 6.5
I have the required versions of MSQL and PHP loaded but not Apache. Anyone know what version of Apache used in SME 7 Alpha ?

Regards
Jack

Hey yall,
just a foot note to this thread.
I installed Vtiger4 on an SME 7alpha14(my test box).
Vtiger installed quickly, and without any noticable errors or problems. This does not speak of security tightening or long term usability, just that the install was pain free.

Vtiger was installed on an outdated 300mz, P2, with 224mg ram, SME7alpha14. It taxes the computer heavily, but is still quite usable on the LAN.

I setup a fragment to run vtiger in SSL:

97vtiger
Alias /vtiger /opt/vtiger
<Directory /opt/vtiger>
SSLRequireSSL on
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php3 .phtml
Options Indexes +Includes FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride all
order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from all
php_admin_value open_baserdir "/opt/vtiger/:/tmp"
</Directory>

Comments welcomed and encouraged.
Joe

andymcp, are you able to reply back with some info on how you installed SugarCRM (and what version of Sugar).

I was taking a look myself and it appears both PHP & Apache have to be upgraded?

I'd appreciate any installation comments you have, Aaron.

Did you all get the sugarcrm install sorted out?  I installed v3.0b and it seemed to get fairly well.  I am not a CRM buff, but there seems to be a lot with this product.  I am interested in hearing how others are/did use this, what features/functions being utilized, and does it really add any value.

thx,

JB
