I have use e-smith / SME for years, but the product is not being supported, and this site is not doing the job, I have move to clarkconnect gateway, and this product is being supported, It has the same features as SME but is build around a stateful firewall, you can download a free version or buy a copy for $65 USD, if you buy a copy then the system will do automatic updates.

Hi
You’re an idiot.
Bye.
PS - Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Colemanpa
If you are so happy with Clark Connect why bother making this post. What have you contributed over the years to SME. This is a community effort if you have'nt contributed in anyway what right have you to criticise. Go pay your USD65 and begone.
Best Wishes
Jay

Since I stumbled on SME some time ago (I think it was in an IPCOP Posting actually), I have tried it, used it and abslutely loved it.
Has solved many issues I previously struggled with and has more than met my expectations. Also the community has assisted me solve minor issues. Some of the issues have simply been monetary constraints to buy the right tool for the job.
For all these things I am very grateful. Sincere thanks to the teams and the people who have made this possible.

I'll second that. I'm very happy with it.
Something I was thinking about the other day when looking at my Router the other day...
Has any one thought of inventing a box, about the size of a router with a hard drive, with SME on it. how good would that be. it would be possible, but I guess you'd have to know how. :-) Designed for small buisines web sites and mail.
-
I like these (http://www.advantech.com/products/Model_Detail.asp?model_id=1-U8AI6&BU=&PD=NA)
Take a laptop hardrive. Make for a nice router as well.
-
That would be right, I think up an invention. and some one else has already invented it. Any idea on what these are worth?
-
Depends on where you are - around $900 Au. Traverse (http://www.traverse.com.au/productviewbyrange.do?range_id=3) have some via based puters that are fairly small and fairly well priced.
-
wow, expencive! the others are a little large... shame.

The SME Server development (aka, the new releases) and maintenance (aka, the updates) depends entirely on the Contribs.org community.
Just to keep all of you up to date, Ian Wells, Floyd Hartog, Dave Kainer and Matthew Copple (sorry if I left someone out) are the people trying to give to this community the SME Server 6.x maintenance and bugfix updates and bring to live the SME Server 6.5 final stable release.
Contribs.org needs your help on this project.
What can you do for Contribs.org?
# Read the maintenance process:
http://no.longer.valid/phpwiki/index.php/Maintenance%20Process
# Join the devinfo mailing list and offer your help to test, debug, etc:
http://lists.contribs.org/mailman/listinfo/devinfo
# Go to the Contribs.org Bug Tracker and study some of the listed bugs with new or feedback status, simulate them, give your feedback, try to find some sort of solution. Also if you have some packager skills try to build some rpm packages to the listed bugs with resolved or closed status:
http://no.longer.valid/mantis/view_all_bug_page.php
Finally, take these thoughts into seriously consideration (taken from Charlie Brady, a SME core developer):
If maintenance of distribution updates is not a "core role" for contribs.org, then what is?
Don't ask what contribs.org can do for me, ask what I can do for contribs.org.
