Title: Mldonkey on SME?
Post by: djhomeless on April 06, 2005, 08:15:07 AM
Has anyone had any luck running Mldonkey on SME 6.x? I've setup and started Mldonkey with no issues, but I can't seem to connect to the web gui that gets started as default.

The gui runs on port 4080, and I've opened it using the port opening contrib. Whenever I try and access mldonkey I get a 505, this document contains no data error.

Oddly, when I do a
Code: [Select]
ps aux | grep mlnet
I see a myriad of mldonkey processes, but none on port 4080?

A while back it seems someone made a Mldonkey contrib, but it doesn't seem to exist anymore:

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Geoffrey

Thanks Ray!

I'll give this a go later tonight. Do you use it?

Actually I was wondering if you had any experiences using Mldonkey on SME. This is the first real P2P app I've ever put on my SME box and I'm a tad nervous as the mldonkey forums warn that the app can be a bit processor hungry. Also, they say not to run mldonkey as root so I hope the contrib runs it as another (non root) user.

Oh well, no better way to find out than by trying! Thanks again for your help.

DJhomeless,
For P2P with the Edonkey network I use Edonkey/Overnet on my SME-server.
I have had this installed for quite some time now and it is working great.
Low CPU utliziation, High downloadspeeds
You can control the command line client with a GUI (available for Linux & Windows)

ou can find the contrib the comand line client and the windows GUI here:

I tried that contrib as well. One problem was I want to access the server using a web gui, not just a client app. I use emule now on a Windows host and I love accessing it from work.

Its the last real reason I run Windows in my house and I want to get rid of it! :)

If you open the admin port for Edonkey on your SME server you can control it with the GUI over the internet.

But that would require installing the GUI on every machine I use. Sadly I do a lot of traveling, and I don't always have access to the same machine.

Mldonkey does what it says on the tin, I especially like being able to download files from edonkey, and bittorrent at the same time!

On the performance side, when I first started it up mldonkey did choke my system while it hashed my existing files (btw. 70-90% CPU), but now, it rarely goes over 5-10% CPU/30% RAM.
