Title: newbie: win2k intranet
Post by: jules on October 20, 2001, 03:51:02 AM
hi - i'm new to e-smith, just installed 4.1.2, works fine so far (my mac can surf).
Here's my goal: i want to host some intranet files (php, etc) on the e-smith box, and some (asp, etc.) on a win2k box that i'll give an address 192.168.0.1
Can i give the win2k box a domain name? ie, mycompany.xxx pages get served by the e-smith box, but mywin2kbox.xxx get served by the windoze box? how would i do this, or do i have to type the ip address in the browser to access the win2k server?

thanks in advance

Jules,

Not sure about redirecting a domain name to the W2K box, but you should be able to redirect a hostname to the W2K box using the hostnames and addresses page on the e-smith manager.

yeah, i felt kind of stupid after asking this; i guess that win2k.mydomain.xxx is just as effective.  Thanks.
