Title: Compressed image at block 0 during install
Post by: Jeff on October 20, 2001, 06:14:52 AM
I've been trying to install SME v. 5, but the installation always stops at a point where it says

RAMDISK: "Compressed image found at block 0"
crcerroVFS: Cannot open root device 08:42
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:42

I've tried this on three drives, and I get the same message.  One drive was formatted Win32, one was tried both unformatted (new) and Win32, and one had an older BSD partition.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Jeff,

What sort of drives are you using ? IDE or SCSI ? I've come across this problem only once using SCSI drives when I changed the controller and the old driver did not match the new card -- thus ESSG cannot mount the hdd (and therefore cannot find root).

All three drives were IDE.  I tried using a ATA/66 controller card becuase the bios can't recognise a 40 GB disk, but the same error happened on a 1 GB disk connected to the motherboard.
