Title: suddenly no internet -dns config question
Post by: kruhm on April 12, 2005, 12:59:03 PM
Here's the short version:
Netgear to SME 6.0 as server-only working great for email and DHCP. All of the sudden out of nowhere, no internet. But everything else worked. I could ping an address correctly but couldn't pull it up in a browser.

I turned off squid with:
/sbin/e-smith/config setprop squid status disabled
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop squid Transparent no
/sbin/e-smith/expand-template /etc/squid/squid.conf
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event remoteaccess-update
service squid stop

Still nothing.

I would like to report great uptime but I panicked and rebooted anyway.

Still nothing.

On the client, I went to a static internal IP and setup my ISP dns.

Still nothing.

Hmmmm... I disconnect the SME from the network by uplugging it from the port. Everything works. Reconnect it, web stops working again.

I'm pretty sure it's a dns config / dns component problem.

Anyone have any ideas?

T1>>netgear>>local network>>sme server only

To fix the problem, I had to define a external DNS server in the administration panel.

Anyone know how I can get this to work without having to not define a external DNS server?
