I have always run SME as server and gateway with a dialup account. I have now (finally) upgraded to a ADSL Link and modem. This modem also includes a Wireless access point firewall and switch. The inbuilt switch is only used to link this modem unit to the main GB switch which is used for the home network.
I need to understand how to reconfigure the SME server correctly. I want to ensure all internet traffic goes via the server and not directly to the ASDL modem gateway. I want the SME server to act as the firewall as it has done in the past. I see the fact that the ADSL modem has a firewall in as well as a belt and braces approach.
The server already has two NICs and my network uses the 192.168.0.XXX (net mask 255.255.255.0) range of IP addresses. The server is currently 192.168.0.1 and the ADSL modem unit 192.168.0.2. DHCP is used to assign IP addresses to the work stations.
Some ideas on the best practice set up would be appreciated,
Thanks
Mike Drummond

My advice would be to trade in the ADSL modem/AP/switch and get a straight ADSL modem.

I take on board your comment.
So lets disable all features but ADSL modem in combined unit.
Now whats the correct set up for Pcs ->SME->ADSL-> internet ? Is it still server & gateway and if so how should the Ip addresses and the two nics be setup in the server.
Thanks
