my win 2k box used to be my gateway; removed its 2nd network card & set the first one to have aip 192.168.0.2; gave it the subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and used the e-smith (4.1.2) box (192.168.0.1) for the gateway and primary dns server. tcp/ip, client for microsoft networks and apple talk protocols are enabled for this connection.
i can ping the e-smith machine, but i can't connect to the internet. all the other boxes on the network are macs, and they're surfing fine & file sharing fine, although they can't see the win2k box anymore. Any ideas?

Did you check the proxy settings of the w2k client? This should be:
192.168.0.2 port 3128

forgive my ignorance; why should i need a proxy - and why would it be the win2k machine itself (192.168.0.2)?
i'll give it a try...

no luck... still no connection

damn network cable... shows up at the hub, but doesn't really work - aargh
all seems well, but i-bays remain a little mysterious on the 2k side...

Sorry,
ment 192.168.0.1 (your e-smith).
You need a proxy if you haven't defined a deafult gateway on you clients...
