Title: acccess to main domain
Post by: hugoboss on April 21, 2005, 02:37:02 PM
I have installed the primary domain on our sme 6.01 under primary.
I have registered the domain with DYNNDS.
A ping gives the right ip adress but a browser will not open the index page..
What is missing??
TIA
regards,
Hugo

What domain?
Samba or your website?
Dyndns works with hostname.dyndns.org = servername.dyndns.org
If it is your website that you are hosting, then you need to allow traffic on Port 80.

Are you using a router?
If so, put a forward rule in the NAT table.
If you have a straight connection to Inet and your server is in Server & Gateway then create a forward rule in Portforwarding.

What is the dyndns name that you setup?
What happens if you enter hostname.dyndns.org/ipnumber_of_server_hosting_website

Yes I am using a (tiscali comtrend600) router.
My lan is on the router, the smebox as well, it is also connected to the router on another lancard.

It works now but do I need both ?
Thanx a lot.
Another question :
to install other domains localy to test .. do I nee one ibay per domain?
Do I need to activate dynamic contents even if I do not need/want the extra directories assigned (files, html, cgi-bin apple ...°
TIA

You definitely need it in the router.
See what happens if you disable it on the server.
It depends on how you installed the server.
Server only or Server+Gateway or Dedicated Server+Gateway.

As for the 2nd question: I don't know. Never used it.

PS: I can't access the website you gave previously.
