Both of these have been released for their respective origins to version 3.0.3 for SpamAssassin and 0.84 for Clam Antivirus. Both upgrade/install scripts have been updated at sme.swerts-knudsen.com
For SpamAssassin the USA (Update SpamAssassin Automatically) location has been updated allowing automatic upgrade for those who have enabled that in their Spamfilter.
Enjoy,
Jesper

Jesper,
many thanks for your continuous work on that. It's much appreciated.

I agree, great work Jesper and thanks!

Thanks, once again for your work.
-
jesper's contributions make SA and Clam management a breeze. Certainly saves me hours!
As always great work Jesper! and thanks for your continuing efforts!
-
Thanks a million Jesper, upgrade went as smooth as usual!

Also thanks to Knuddi from me, but the automated upgrade did not work so smuth. This morning i got a lot of spam. Checking the log:

koopman,
Which version of SME are you running?
Please check whether all modules got installed correctly by issuing:
# rpm -qa | grep -i spamassassin
You should have 3 RPM installed all called something with 3.0.3
-
@Knuddi,
SME 6.0-11 with updates
No success here either, run-parts /etc/cron.daily:

did you download the script right before you ran it, or is this an old version?
-
Yes I downloaded right befor.
Birger Koopmann
-
I would run rpm -qa | grep -i spamassassin.
I would uninstall the rpms listed with rpm -e, then
I would try running the script again.

for his continued efforts and work, despite the somewhat uncertain environment. I also want to think him for responding to my many lame emails asking questions.
No smart-ass answers or commentary about my not being a developer and helping out, etc. What a breath of fresh air!
You are a good guy, Jesper, and appreciated.

(The server is 6.0.1 updated with smeplus.)
The perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.0.3-1.i386.rpm was downloaded by the script but some how not installed/updated.
I downloaded http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/swerts-knudsen/SpamFilter/perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.0.3-1.i386.rpm
Updated: rpm -Uvh perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.0.3-1.i386.rpm
Restarted the spamfilter via server-manager.
Now everything seems to work fine.
Thanks for the help.

More than 2400+ SpamAssassin and 100+ Clam Antivirus upgrades/installs within 24 hours!!
Properly most of the SpamAssassin upgrades were done through auto update - I better get this done for Clam AV as well.
-
Hi folks and again a big hug to jesper,
i had probs with updating SpamAss on my 6.0x SME; it said perl-Mail-SpamAssassin = 3.0.2-1 is needed by spamassassin-tools-3.0.2-1
so i could not install the newer perl-Mail-SpamAssassin 3.0.3.
I just did rpm -e spamassassin-tools
and after that rpm -Uvh perl-Mail-SpamAssassin 3.0.3*.rpm
and that made it.
-
I noticed that the automatic update script has failed a multiple locations includign my own. This I expect is due to the heavy download activity a pretty much the same time. I am working on a more resistant updater which will be distributed (automatically) for next release of SpamAssassin.
For those of you that had failing SpamAssassin updates, please just run the install/upgrade script from:
http://sme.swerts-knudsen.com/howtos/howto_29.htm
-
Hello,
I can confirm that it worked for me the second time after the rpm -e and redownloading the script.
I had to start spamassassin manually by "/etc/init.d spamassassin start" but that was all (maybe that was caused because my system doesn't have 'service' on its default path).
Thanks Knuddi!
-
Upgraded without any noticeable problems. Thanks Jesper.
-
A new e-smith-USA package has been released (thanks to Michiel Blotwijk) which will more resistent to massive upgrades. This new package will also keep sme-spamfilter up to date along with the three SpamAssassin modules.
This new package will be autoupgraded for all users who has run the install script from swerts-knudsen.dk/com and using the spamfilter package.
Also a new Antivirus package has been released with similar integrated functionality. I can auto upgrade when new Clam Antivirus releases as well as sme-antivirus itself. To get the new sme-antivirus please just run the install/upgrade script from:
[root@e-smith]# wget -N http://sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/downloads/AntiVirus/antivirus_install.sh
[root@e-smith]# sh antivirus_install.sh
-
Hi Jesper,
The upgrade ran like a charm - You are my personal hero!

Jesper,
Thanks for keeping this up to date. Have you had any input to the inclusion of clam and SA with SME 7? I'm just curious if anyone bothered to contact you about the packages you had already developed? If so, great, I hope to see these features in SME 7, if not, that's too bad, and once again we witness the lack of communication going on. Why totally re-invent the wheel when someone already has something built?
JB
-
I am curious how many of you folks use the "automatic update" feature? Has it shown to be reasonably safe to allow the updates to happen without intervention?
I just installed the Clam contrib, found I had to kick start SA before the headers reflected the two processes were working.
thanks.

patrick

The Automatic SpamAssassin updater (USA) has been active for quite a few releases now and has shown to be quite good. The amount of people using the autoupdate (~2500) indicates that it should work just fine. I think that contribs.org had an issue with the latest update as ~2000 servers tried to get the complete package all at the same time AND the updater wasn't resistant to this. This has been corrected in the new e-smith-USA release (0.3.5).
This is of cause no gurantee and hence the reason why the default behaviour is to download and inform the admin.
-
Jesper, only get it halfway. There are two scripts:
spamfilter_install.sh wich installs a new e-smith-USA package (e-smith-USA-0.3.5-1.noarch.rpm) with auto-upgrade feature.
antivirus_install.sh wich installs an auto-upgrade feature for ClamAV.
To get both auto-upgrades (SA and ClamAV), both scripts have to be downloaded and executed, right?
The "old" USA package (mine is e-smith-USA-0.3.0-1) had done its job quite reliable. What's improved in 0.3.5-1? (EDIT was a little too slow posting, answered above)
-
The "old" USA package (mine is e-smith-USA-0.3.0-1) had done its job quite reliable. What's improved in 0.3.5-1?
It should now be even more reliable :-D
1. USA now first checks if all required packages have been downloaded correctly before attempting to install the lot. If one download failed, the update is stopped and retried the next day.
2. RPM versions are now checked before downloading them. In version 0.3.0 the version handling was left to rpm, causing conflicts in some cases.
3. Activity is now logged to /var/log/USA.log
4. The default behaviour was changed from "install" to "download and warn admin"
5. A couple of cosmetic bugs were removed (and probably replaced by other cosmetic bugs)
If you find any real bugs, please let me know.
regards,
Michiel
-
mbachmann,
You are right both scripts have to at least once be executed BUT you do not need to do anything for the Spamfilter IF you have run it once (even though its long time ago) and you have the Automatic SpamAssassin Update (USA) option in the server-manager panel.
For Antivirus you need to run it once and obtain the new 1.4.0 version to get this new functionality.

Currently I'm using Pagefault.org AV script on two servers. I've tried to use your update script twice before on the same server and it bombs out. When I installed Pagefaults AV I had to install YUM. The question is could YUM be causing it to bomb out. And if so how do I prevent the problem.
-
ltc6netspec,
YUM is just an update system and shouldn't cause any problems if NOT set to automatically update from a site on a regular basis.
Which version of SME are you using?
What does bombs out means - a little more technical explanation would help :-)
-
I had Abe Loveless try it he found that this SME 6.01-01 shows perl-libnet-1.0901-17 where your update file will not update this version file. Do I need the update perl-libnet that your script downloads. If so what are the commands you want me to use.
-
my version of sme-antivirus is a fork from pagefault.org so the requirements are very similar. The only extra requirement I am aware of is the perl-Date-Manip RPM so that shouldn't be the cause.
What happens when you install sme-antivirus? Can you provide the output from the installation and/or a description of the failure??

Since the upgrade to 3.0.3, Bayes scoring is not working for all users.
Originally, the auto-update did not completely update Spamassassin from 3.0.3 so I installed the perl-Mail-SpamAssassin rpm and restarted Spamassassin. Everything started working again or so I thought.
Today I noticed that none of the messages are being scored using the Bayes scoring. I found that the messaged that do score above 8 should be autolearned as spam but instead it says autolearn=unavailable.
I re-installed from the script from the website but it still wasn't working. So I uninstalled all of the rpms and reran the script and it still doesn't work.
I ran sa-learn --sync as root and that hasn't helped.
I did notice Bayes scoring works when logged in as root but it is not working for anyother users. I thinking it is a folder permissions problem but I don't know where.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
My server is running the latest contrib, post install, and the envelope information reflects autolearn=hamversion=3.03
then it is cut off. I can say on previous versions I struggled to verify autolearn was in fact working and the envelope never reflected that it was.
This newest version appears to indicate it is.
My own ignorance to the inner plumbing of this utility is what frustrates me. In the absence of autolearning both good AND bad email Spam Assassin is not being used to its potential.
How do we determine if it is working outside of the simple one line in the envelope?
regards,
patrick
-
We commented out this portian of your script because it would say that perl-libnet-1.0901-17 was newer than perl-libnet-1.18-8.noarch.rpm. When it wasn't commented out the script would fail.
#if [ pic rpmlist | grep perl-libnet-1.18 | wc -l -eq 0 ]
#then
#wget -nc -nd -S $SITE/perl-libnet-1.18-8.noarch.rpm
#fi

@Knuddi
Antivirus package, this installed well, thanks!
I also had an old, previous reported, problem again. My system doesn't have the "service" command on the default path.
Why don't you use /etc/init.d/clamd start ???
Sjef.
-
svangool,
Have changed the script to use /etc/init.d/ calls rather than service even though it should be in the default path on a std. SME server.
I have also changed the perl-libnet back to 1.09 even though I am clueless why 1.18 should be older
-
How do we determine if it is working outside of the simple one line in the envelope?
/var/log/maillog is a good place to start. Search for the string autolearn=.

Is it a bug?

I don't know this language, but it may have something to do with this if statement in how it is viewing the comparison between the to rpms. If you can make it look only at the first 1.xx then it should work correctly.
#if [ pic rpmlist | grep perl-libnet-1.18 | wc -l -eq 0 ]

Install script was a breeze. Uninstalled old version and installed new version without ANY hassel. Noticed a funny quirk. Under "Automatically update Antivirus Engine?" I found it set on "Download Updates and Warn Administrator" When I clicked to see other options I noticed that the default was supposed to be "Download Updates and Install (Default)". What I'm trying to say is simiply that my default setting wasn't what the default setting should have been if the "Download Updates and Install" option is supposed to be the default.
Wow can't believe I typed so many words for something so completely unecessary. This little problem isn't really worth the time of day to mention but I did anyway. Maybe I should get a real life.
THANKS again for ALL your hard work and wonderful work.

This antivirus is certainly a great contrib however I have some suggestions to make it better:
- Have an option for not saving emails in quarantine, why? because sometimes you get bombed by someone infected by a virus and it may fill up your email queue, in this case it would be better to not store at all any infected email in queue.
- Some of us manage several servers. Would it be possible to have a script that could allow us to make a mirror of your contribs and have our servers update against our mirrors?

Hello, I would like to give a big thank you to all those who have put thier time into this contrib.
I installed the script today (may 12) from
sme.swerts-knudsen.dk/howtos/howto_29.htm
all appears to have gone fine except I am having some issues with the control panel, and perhaps clamav scanning of email on my ssl ports.
I am running 601-1 with a few update contribs
rpm -qa | grep -i spamassassin gives me:
perl-Mail-SpamAssassin-3.0.3-1
spamassassin-tools-3.0.3-1
spamassassin-3.0.3-1
I have done a search to see if anyone else has reported this issue, but I did not get any hits.
The problem is...
When I set SSL incoming and outgoing scans to yes in the
Real-time E-mail Scanning section
The operation gives me a green checkmark and states all is successful after I click on save, however, when I exit and log back into the control panel and check the Antivirus panel, both ssl settings revert back to NO.
All of my users connect via pop/smtp ssl for email which was enabled by the pagefault contrib.
Is this something cosmetic or is the setting not saving?
how do I check and fix?
Thank you in advance
Paul

I also have the same problem on 2 different machines using the latest antivirus_install.sh from Swerts-Knudsen. However, it's only a minor bug that exists in an awesome script.
