I am using SME 6.0.1 with DansGuardian as a fire wall and DHCP server. I have one workstation (Windows XP Professional, SP 2) that cannot access the Internet.
Every other computer in my LAN (Mac, Linux, Windows) can access the Internet. The WinXP Pro computer can log on to the domain and access all resources (printers, files) within the LAN.
I have applied the XP reg patch and checked. Digitally encript or sign secure channel data, Digitally encript secure data channel, and Digitally sign secure data channel are disabled.
I suspect but do not know how to prove that the request for web pages from this computer is getting out through the firewall but the web content is getting blocked when it comes back.
Suggestions please.
Thank you.

Getting blocked from XP or the SME? Test with XP SP2 disabled firewall. Issue a ipconfig /all at the xp machine. Looks good? Issue netsh and type "?" to list commands, go the "interface" context, then "ip" and check all "show ..." for plausibility.

Simple solution. The user had turned his firewall on at home and left it on.
Can't complain really. I've been harping on security ever since I got here. I showed him how to turn it on at home and off at work.
Thanks for the answer.

Hello
Simple solution. The user had turned his firewall on at home and left it on.
Test with XP SP2 disabled firewall.
Can someone please expand on this a bit ... I don't understand how the XP firewall is causing a problem.
I have XP machines with service pack 2 installed and the firewalls enabled and I can brows the internet and do everything else no probs ... these machines log into a domain on my server.
Is this issue caused buy Dansguardian? ... thats the only thing I don't have installed on my SME Server 6.0.1-01.
I'm thinking of putting Dansguardian onto the machine at work that has the same setup as the one here at home ... at work we have about 30 XP machines that also have no problems accessing the internet etc ... if Dansguarian has problems with XP firewall then I'm not sure if I want to do that.
