Title: upgraded to 6.0 - the email scanner isn't working. Help!
Post by: fubduck on May 02, 2005, 03:49:53 PM: :hammer: Hello. I got the upgrade installed and everything seems to be working okay. Both the admin and root passwords still work for me.

Also the thing that scans the email for viruses doesn't seem to work. I get error messages saying paths are wrong. I don't think it ever did work. How can I find where it is on the server and check the paths, etc. to see if I can get it to work? Or would it just be easier to uninstall what's there and reinstall it from scratch? If so how?

I know I don't know spit about Linux (It ought to be obvious by now.) but I am trying to learn. Please help. Thanks.

Post by: Boris on May 02, 2005, 08:40:20 PM: You need to know what av scanner package was used before. Was it from dungog.net or pagefault or one from Swerts-Knudsen.dk?
Try
rpm -q clamav-es
rpm -q spamassassin
this may give some clues.

rpm -q clamav-es told me 'not installed'

rpm -q spamassassin told me 'spamassassin -2.60-1

I still haven't got a clue as to what email scanner was/(is?) installed here. I'll see if I can find the websites for the other apps you mentioned. Maybe my brain'll kick in if I see something familiar.

Whatever is installed here would be part of the 5.6 base system. I never seem to have any extra money for toys I'd like. I paid the guy who setup the server for me $600 and got no support at all. He took the money, installed the no support version and took off fast. (Real nice guy :)

I'm making a guess that it'd be easier to uninstall whatever is here and then re-install from scratch? Let me know what you think. This is still all new to me.

Can you tell me how to fix the %^@%^@%^ thing?

Just go to http://www.swerts-knudsen.dk and look for the antivirus howto. Download the install script and run the script from command prompt. It will automatically uninstall/update old versions of av.

Time for you to learn to look and search before asking simple things like this, the information is readily available at this site by searching for antivirus or whatever else you are needing. If you can't find it then ask.
