Post by: fixit on May 05, 2005, 05:48:09 AM
Multilog: fatal: unable to open directory /var/log/proftpd: access denied

this happened when I updated proftpd with proftpd-1.2.10-es1.i386.rpm, since then I got this error running continuosely on the monitor on the sme server.

what needs to be to correct this

what i have done so far is force a reinstall of the above file.

Install proftpd-1.2.9-es3 from Mitel. You'll need to use "rpm -Uhv --oldpackage ..." to do so. You may also need to do
"rpm --setuidguid e-smith-proftpd" to set the correct permissions/ownership of /var/log/proftpd.

You should also contact whoever put together proftpd-1.2.10-es1 and tell them it is incompatible with the version of e-smith-proftpd you are running.
