Title: Big Brother client for SME 6.x
Post by: trosenquist on May 18, 2005, 08:34:57 PM
Hello All,

I am supporting several SME servers for clients and would like to monitor their health through our Big Brother server.  This simply requires the Big Brother client to be installed on SME servers; however, the normal installation routine requires a compiler, etc.

Has anyone done this and created a document or package?

Would someone be willing to do this?  Compensation can be arranged.  My ideal scenario would be to have an RPM to install which would put the necessary hooks in place for bbcd to start up automatically.  I would simply have to edit the bb configuration files to monitor the desired processes.

Thanks for your thoughts/time.

If you have a compiler on another linux host, you should be able to compile it there and move to the sme-server.
I think there was some sort of script doing this..
I haven't been using BB for some years, so I may be wrong here...

Sounds nice and simple.  So I have to get some RedHat 7.3 CDs and build a system - 2 hours.  Then I have to install BB Client - 1/2 hour.  Now try to figure out how to get SME to start up BB Client automatically as SME will re-write config files - 1-2 hours.  Finally I have to test it on a non-production system - 1-2 hours.

Well in the end that just isn't worth it for me or my client.  I would rather locate someone familiar with SME and some if its workings and pay them for a couple of hours of labour ($50/hour?) as a working solution is worth that to us.  A day of my time? No.  Anyone willing to help?

Tim.
