why not put mysqli and php5 and add an IRCD server like, UnrealIRCD with irc services like anope / epona

I don't believe these programs are imperative to the running of a business base server which is the focus of the SME.

That is not to say that someone who wants to write them, could do so and add them as a contrib.  That is the benefit and extensiblity of SME.
