Title: I want to rebrand and sell SME...
Post by: ealvar on May 30, 2005, 08:34:25 PM
First, can I do this?

Second, how can I do this without violating GPL?

Third,  I won't actually be selling SME, but rather selling my time to rebrand for customers, install, configure, and educate per customer needs.

Is this allowed and how can I make sure that I do this properly.

Thanks,

ealvar

1. According to the GPL license, yes you can do this
2. Make the source available of all GPL code that you 'sell'
3. That is your business model, go for it
4. See 1 and 2

I'd be interested in why you feel the rebranding is important?

He probably wants to rename it so it looks like he created it?

Hi ealvar,

Why do you want to rebrand a great GPL product for ???

What alot of people do is sell there time, and equipment (computer components) and use SME as the software for the server, and make donations out of what we earn back to Contribs.
