Title: DNS2Go under SME 5.0
Post by: Spencer Fornaciari on November 01, 2001, 05:10:21 AM
Hey,
Has anyone setup DNS2Go under SME 5.0?  Do you know if the how-to still works under SME 5.0?  Just want to see if anyone has ventured down this path first before trying anything myself.

Hey, I just checked it out and DNS2Go now has an entirely web-based client so you dont even need to know how to set it up.  Pretty sweet and a good option for new people.

I wrote the HOWTO, and I've not check SME5 yet; however, unless SME5 changes the way dynamic DNS works (doubtful) I suspect it will work fine.

The web client allows you to manually change your IP and status. Okay if you only need to be online while you're sitting at your computer, but not too good if you are wanting 24x7 accessibility.

I'm sure you are right about the web client not being as powerful, but it really doesn't matter in my position because I've got a dedicated cable connection running into my SME server.  So I don't have to change my ip address really and my SME server does stay online all the time.  Perhaps I'll setup the DNS2Go client in the future, but for now this works fine, but its good to know that the how-to should work though.
