Title: Change name of SME Server
Post by: provino on June 08, 2005, 11:11:25 AM
I have just installed a client PC in the network running XP Pro and all mapped networkdrives now have very long names when browsed through MS Explorer :(provino on 'Mitel Networks SME Server (Provino)(p:)'.

Is there a way to change the name of the server for a shorter name?

Just rename the link in your client PC to a shorter and more comprehensible for you one.

So easy, and I have been browsing through documents and manuals to look for answers.

Thanks.

This should also work:
/sbin/e-smith/db configuration setprop smb ServerString 'server name you want'
/etc/e-smith/events/actions/conf-samba
/etc/init.d/smb restart
