Title: Serial ATA drives in SME Server
Post by: Librarian on June 14, 2005, 10:42:04 AM
Hi there

Background :

I'm planning to install SME server on a 5Gb HDD, and then add a 120Gb Serial ATA HDD with add-on S-ATA controller card to a Pentium2 motherboard.

Questions :

1. Will SME Server recognize and use SATA drives?
2. How do I configure SME Server so that it will use the 120Gb SATA drive for storage? Logs etc will remain on the 5Gb HDD, but user files, email, web pages and so on, will reside on the 120Gb HDD.

Regards

Librarian

Use SME 6.5 RC1 or SME7 Alpha.

Librarian,

If you plan on using the right SATA card it should work for your just fine. The 3Ware cards seem to work well.  I have had good success with them.

If you want the software (SME) to identify the drives without a special card (i.e. onboard SATA) then you should move to 6.5beta.   Don't use 7.0alpha for anything except reporting bugs for the development community.  Alpha means trouble.  If you like trouble jump on in.... and post your bugs.
