Title: OK to Update Clam ?
Post by: gbentley on June 25, 2005, 11:35:15 AM
SME 6.0 + Jasper AV sent me this nice message ;

The following updates have been downloaded and are available for installation:
  - clamav-es-0.85.1-es01.i386.rpm
  - clamav-es-libs-0.85.1-es01.i386.rpm

You can find these files in /tmp/UCA and install them with 'rpm -Uvh /tmp/UCA/*.rpm'.

regards,
The Automatic Clam Antivirus updater

Q: Is it ok to just go ahead and do this or will it break anything SME specific ?

Thanks !

That is a safe upgrade to do.

Note though that quite a few people have experienced problems with auto download and update and also auto download and update later.

My guess is that the rpms are not correctly downloading due to heavy traffic on the ftp server when thousands of users suddenly ask for the update rpms to be downloaded.

So the upgrade should work OK as long as the rpms downloaded correctly.
You can always manually download when the servers are not so busy then install them manually.

I prefer to be Warned only (one of the options in the panel) and then I manually download and install the rpms.

Ray,

Only one of my boxes had a problem with the "download and warn" of this update, so that's some progress over the last time.  Looks like the best option is still to warn and pull the files manually.

I agree with this as well.  I had issues with the last 2 updates of clam and the last update of spamassassin.

And I have even seem this myself. I had tried to make the autodownload code resistent to download failures but I guess I failed. I will look into this and see whether I can find a solid solution.

I all cases IF you expirience download problems then you can download manually from sme.swerts-knudsen.com or:

SpamAssassin:
1) edit /home/e-smith/altiplano and remove the 3 lines with the most recent version of
 - Perl-Spamassassin
 - spamassassin-tools
 - spamassassin
2) run USA

Clam:
1) edit /home/e-smith/swerts-knudsen and remove the 2 lines with the most recent version of
 - clam-es-libs
 - clam-es

Rgds,
Jesper
2) run UCA
