Hi All
My server has a sound card in it built onto the motherboard. What I would like to do is play MP3's through it to speakers throughout the house.
If possible I would like to be able to use a web-based system to index and play the MP3's and also to control the volume.
Has anyone heard of a contrib that can do this? I have searched the forums and someone asked this question a couple of years ago, but never got an answer.
Thanks

As the name states, SME Server is a Server, not a media computer. You can use SME server as a storage for your MP3's, and play it from any networked computer in the house.

I know that SME is a server, I use it a lot on client sites.
Since I have my server sitting around doing mail / webhosting, I thought I would also see if I could get it to play music around the house.
Once I get it going on my server, I will install on a clients server to play hold music for their PABX phone system.

The following thread may help:

You can also visit the mt-daapd board at:

It works with iTunes and its own sqlite database. I find it very useful for playing a large ogg collection anywhere in the house.
The downside is that it converts all file formats to wav before sending over the internal network. This tends to slow down some other functions of the SME server such as web surfing for the hardware I have so I am planning to move the music stuff to a separate linux box.
