Hi!
I am running SME 6.?? on a Toshiba Magnia SG20. I rarely use Samba to access files on it. Now I have a reproducable problem:
I usually click from "Network" on the server name. It then asks for the login information. After login I can access all shares and i can browse all shared that the used user has right to. I copied ~200MB from WinXP to the share and shut the WinXP computer down.
Now I can not browse the share (ibay) i copied the files to anymore. It is still listed when logging in, but when trying to browse it says: "\\<Server-Name>\\<Folder>" can not be accessed and that I sould check the network connection. All other shares can be browsed as intended.
I restartet the SME6 server and all was fine. But after i copied some files to that share again, I can not access it anymore.
Access over HTTP or SSH is possible. So it must be Samba locking up or something like that?
How can I restart samba?
/usr/sbin/smbd restart does not work.
Thanks in advance,
-Jens

Hi there,
If you are accessing the server like this "\\<Server-Name>\\<Folder>" then this is incorrect. There should not be a double slash between server name and folder. It should be, "\\<Server-Name>\<Folder>"
Also try IP address of the SME Server failing that.
Hope this helps,
Arthur

Sorry, that was a typo. I am accessing the shares using the Windows Explorer. All other ibay-shares work as intended. As I had this problem after the reboot and the copying again I moved the folder I had created with Windows Explorer in the ibay-share's html folder to another ibay-share's html folder I still had access over Samba in the ssh shell. I did not want to reboot again just to put some files to be downloadable by a friend over the web.
For some strange reason I could then reaccess the bugged ibay-share and browse the contents of its html folder. I will see if it occurs on the other ibay-share now after rebootig WinXP. And if it is related to me making Links (Icons) on the Windows Desktop to the share.
