Title: Zero viruses detected - I should be happy...
Post by: mophilly on July 16, 2005, 09:09:38 PM
SME 6.0.1-1 with the unofficial update scripts applied. Using Swert-Knudsen ClamAV and SpamAssissin auto download with manual update.

The daily report hasn't listed any detected viruses since the last update. Like I said, I should be happy but instead I worry "is it working?"

How do I ascertain proper function of ClamAV?

TIA,

You can get the EICAR test string from the web and try and send it to yourself. This should be detected as a virus and then at least you know that things are being scanned.

Hope this helps.

You can also check the header/message source of email messages you receive. You should see an entry for amavis which indicates the message has been scanned.
eg
X-Virus-Scanned: by amavis-ng-0.1.6.4-03dc on servername.xxxx.xxx

Thanks for the tips. I used both and now I can sleep at night.

Happy days,
