Hi,
I want to SME to update my DYNDNS account but don't want to use as a web proxy.
Is there anyway of getting this to work in server only mode?

You can use script to force a refresh through dyndns.org (if you are using their service) web ip check facility.
Run a check on dyndns.org website on various way to update the domain with the dynamic IP address.
I'm using a python script call IPCHECK, in addition I include that in the crontab to have it executes hourly.

Thanks chaps,
So if I take this correctly, this rpm (2.0.-6 being the latest) will add a panel to the server manager to configure DDNS - but I will also need to configure a cronjob to force an update on a regular basis?

yes. Add a virtual domain under configuration -> domains with your DynDNS domain name. Then add your SynDNS account data in Configuration -> Dynamoc Clients.

No. This is done automatically by the contrib.

dyndns is usually done by your gateway/router. most recent routers have a dyndns service built into them. since you are running in server-only mode, the sme isn't your gateway.
i don't see any advantage in running this on the sme.

Kruhm,

Since my AVM Fritz!Box had no DynDNS support in earlier releases and doesn't do this job well even in the current release without error messages, I use the ddclient service on my SME and believe me, it works.
There are cases, where you need this contrib.
But you are right, if the router does the DynDNS updates correctly, this method should be used.
