Title: Please help advice for migrating from ISA
Post by: tariqf on July 19, 2005, 10:55:16 AM
Hi I've just got my big break and my company is prepared to give linux a shot as a firewall - everything is currently microsoft. Please would anyone be able to give me some advice on migrating from ISA 2004 to SME 6.01? I'm a bit worried about windows authentication as it's essential that I can restrict access based on integrated windows authentication. Also I need to bolt down SME and only allow definied outgoing traffic.

Please can anyone advise?

I suggest you set up a test system first and experiment on that.

tariqf,
Please let us know your findings. It's hard to say if you can replace the actual service according to your staff. In ISA you restrict access using Active Directory and that propagates throughout your domain/subdomain (making things a lot easier). In SME I'm not sure how to control this, or if it's capable of such task, since the control is done on the server (locally). Two SME will act independently.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
