Hi,
I'm just about to setup an SME box for a classroom in a small school. So far there is no internet connection. I would however like to add this on in the (not so near) future.
Q1) Can I setup the Server in Sever-Only mode, and change it later to Server-Gateway (I know how to get into the menu to change it). Or should I start off with Server-Gateway. What sort of effects does this cause to SME and/or 3rd Party Contribs?
Q2) I'm looking to also install DansGuardian for web filtering (I've never used it before, just seen the contrib for it). How does this work? Does it only work on trafic pointed at the Proxy server or does it work as a Transparent Proxy on all traffic. In other words, if I install a filter I don't want students to be able to find a way around it.
Q3) For those using DansGardian are you happy with it? and is there good logging options to see what users are being filterd from?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can do that.

Configurable in conjunction with setting the Transparent proxy on your server to port 8080, see the HOWTO and search the forums for additional info re blocking ports 80 and 3128

Everything is logged
To see some of the configuration possibilities for blocking & allowing access to sites, and allowing/blocking from certain PC's see the HOWTO and the dansguardian config files.

thanks, I've been having a good read through them, looks good so far.
From what I can see you have to pay extra for webpage config of DansGuardian?

Yes the dungog contrib has a fee (for 1 year of support/upgrades I think).

that's fair enough, I just wasn't sure if I was looking at the right thing.
Thanks for your help.
