Title: Configuring 6.5 for dynamic IPs
Post by: Ted on July 25, 2005, 07:32:20 AM
I'll apologize if I am just too dumb to find the "How to" but can anybody tell me how to setup my sme server (ver 6.5 on a home network) to automatically update for changed IP addresses from my ISP (Comcast cable).

The network is set up as follows.

Two domain names are owned by my wife and I (shadowsfall.org and aviondreams.com) both are set up at easydns.com to point to the comcast provided IP address.  This address lives in my Linksys firewall/router (via DHCP from the cable modem).  My sme server lives behind the Linksys and is my home networks e-mail, web and file server.

What I need to be able to do is to have some way for the server to check the IP address of the Linksys router and update the records at www.easydns.com .

I thought that at one time I had found a How to on doing this but I can no longer find it.

Help.

Thanks

Ted

Has OS agnostic JS and Perl clients.. Have you tried these?

Thanks for the reply.  I had already found the help page at easydns, now I just need to find the RIGHT ez-ipupdate.rpm file.  The first one I tried threw multiple dependences at me.  This made me a little uneasy so I declined to download and install two or three other rpms just to get that one going.

If anyone knows which (and where) the right ez-ipupdate.rpm is hiding I would be very pleased.

Thanks

Wouldn't the router have a DDNS updator page built in?
(or is that only Dynamic DNS? www.dyndns.org)
