Title: EMPTY MAILLOG, sends but won't receive

I can't receive email at a server, but it does send!  The mail log is empty, boot log is clean, messages log has lots of entries like

just changed ISP (to  bell canada iabn.on.com ) but I suspect that the problem predates the change.

I contacted easydns, (domain registrar ) they say their server can't connect to the SME server!  I changed POP to public, made no difference

process 'supervise qmail' is running, no errors being reported!

All suggestions welcome

Inbound mail doesn't arrive by POP, it arrives by SMTP. Your ISP is probably blocking inbound SMTP (port 25) to your server. You'll need to take it up with them, and perhaps find an alternative arrangement. You should disable public POP.

my port scanner says port 25 is open! one interesting development, I got back some undeliverable mail that claims that valid email accounts don't exist.  Problem is, the mail to invalid accounts should be sent to the administrator (ME!)

Are you scanning from outside the ISP's network?

yes, I'm scanning from a remote system.  

I'm using the new ISP's smtp server to send mail, ( I read that outgoing 25 is often limited to the ISP's own smtp server ), but it appears that other mail servers timeout when trying to reach the problem server.

The site is a problem, the area is scheduled for service upgrades "soon", but at present there is no cable service, and all DSL lines are used up with a massive waiting list!
