Title: restore backup from 5.5 to a fresh 6.5RC1?
Post by: AidansDad on July 29, 2005, 03:30:57 PM
can I restore the backup I made from a 5.5 server onto new hardware which has 6.5 installed?  there aren't really any custom rpms installed, just e-smith-proxy-auth which I could uninstall after the upgrade to install sme-squid instead.

the backup is well under 2 GBs.  would there be any problem doing this? or would I have to upgrade first to 6.0 then upgrade again to 6.5, run another backup then restore that backup to the new server hardware?

Yes, should be OK.

I'm sure that database format conversion hasn't been tested right back to version 5.5, but it should still work.
