Problem: my modem (US ROBOTICS) won't dial out to my ISP
External network settings
Operation mode: SERVER AND GATEWAY - DIALUP
modem port: /dev/ttyS1
access phone number: 1234 (not the real number)
PPP account: demo
PPP passord: demo
Connect time: medium, etc.....
Whn I run the internet dialup test my modem doesnt respond, not even a light is flashing.
What can be wrong???

I had this same problem initally when setting up mine. Is this an internal or external modem? Mine was external, the documentation provided a setting in the /dev that needed to be added for this to work. I don't recall exactly and I am at work so I can't look. After adding a line in /dev/? life was good.
Also have you used Minicom or another utility to test the modem. Minicom required modifications to work also.
I will look later to see if you still need the entry.
Good Luck

Did you ever get it working? If so, what did you do.
I'm having the same problem, It picks up the line, but just sits there and never dials.
