to fix the mail relay
smtp
The email server that you use for sending email is probably listed in our Open Relay DataBase (ORDB). Your email server can easily be tricked into sending large amounts of unsolicited email, called spam. The email server is a so-called "open relay".

Unless you have (badly) modified your server, this is unlikely to be true. Most likely a previous resident of your server's IP address was an open relay, and was added to the ORDB.

Search here for smtp-auth-proxy. That'll get you started on the mods you'll need to do to set up authenticated sending via your ISP's mail server.
