Title: Anyone installed SME 6.5 on a Proliant 3000
Post by: jarthurs on August 11, 2005, 07:28:52 PM
I've just acquired a Proliant 3000 dual PII server and was wondering if anyone has experience of running SME 6.5 successfully on one.

Found a number of references to other Proliant models but not this particular one. The main issue of concern would be the RAID array, this server has a Compaq 2SL SCSI RAID card with four 4.3Gb drives. If I need to add or remove drives is there a tool to do this within SME or will it involve a reload after the array is reconfigured?

Regards,
Jason.

I've installed SME 6.0 Final on a Proliant 6500 (four processors) and a Proliant 8000 (eight processors) with no problems in either case, so you shouldn't have trouble with the dual processor 3000.  Both of my machines have a SmartArray 220 RAID controller in them.

I'm not an expert with RAID issues, but from my experience, if you're going RAID 5, be sure you've got adequate space PRIOR to installing SME since it's very hard to increase your drive space later, even if you're using SmartStart or other Compaq utilities.  Remember as well that if you configure the RAID array with SmartStart, install SME in single-disk mode and the RAID controller will do the rest automatically.

Search the forums for RAID info, and you'll likely find quite a bit.
