There is no HOWTO at the dg site as such, you need to read and work out how to put the pieces together yourself.
Note that within the standard dansguardian configuration, you can control what types of files are allowed to be downloaded etc so there is some considerable degree of control already built in by default. See my HOWTO and read the prompts at the start of each of the dg config files, they tell you how to use each config file.
At the workstation level (Windows) you can use the following freeware quite effectively
AVG
adaware
spybot search & destroy
and
spyblaster

Hi Mr. Mitchell,
I finally downloaded DansGuardian from http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dungog/files/dansguardian/DansGuardian-2.6.1-3.RH72.i386.rpm and installed it following the instructions from contribs.org. However, I could not find the location and file name of the "access denied page". The content of /var/www/dansguardian/dansguardian.pl is not the same as the one displayed on the client side. Is there another file that controls the "access denied page"?

Check in /etc/dansguardian/dansguardian.conf
I'm sure it specifies the name of that file
which is
/etc/dansguardian/template.html

Mr. Mitchell,
Thanks for the reply. Silly of me not to read the remarks regarding the default HTML template. I was concentrating on the accessdeniedaddress = 'http://your.domain/dansguardian.pl' setting.
I wish you could have time creating an instruction regarding the DansGuardian's capability to serve as anti-spyware and anti-virus. The fact that I could not afford DansGuardian's commercial version, I also have little knowledge of Linux.
BTW, is there a way of upgrading DansGuardian without uninstalling the old version?
Thanks,
Buknoy

I wish I could have time too !
The information is all there though, it's just a matter of eading it and working out how to implelment it.
The standard DG already has a lot of that type of functionality, but it needs to be configured/enabled. Check (read) each DG configuration file and you will see what the capabilities are, especially blocking download various file types extensions. All the config files are listed in the HOWTO. For more detail about DG see the DG website

rpm -Uvh rpmname
should do it, just watch for any dependencies.
