Is there a work around for this? I really don't want to reconfigure my whole domain to accomdate this facet of SME.
Why is there a restriction to start the domain with a letter?
Regards,
Steve

Which version please? I don't believe this restriction exists in 7.0alpha.

I would suspect it was unintentional. Domains could not start with numerals until 3com (IIRC) forced the issue.
I class it as a bug - please raise it in the bug tracker.
Thanks,

Sorry - should have clarified, my SME server can be part of my domain for DNS purposes (begins with numeral) but I have a security domain (Windows 2000) that I wanted SME to join. In 6.01 and 6.5 (haven't tried 7.0a yet) you are prohibited from joining a Windows security domain unless the "workgroup" begins with a letter.
Should've been more clear and thank you for the reply.

Yep - there's definitely code to stop your Windows workgroup/domain from starting with a number (and this still exists in 7.0alpha).
Please raise a bug - thanks.
