Title: Is 512MB enough RAM for 6.5b1, ClamAV and SpamAssassin
Post by: f2racer on August 18, 2005, 04:38:27 PM
I'm running 6.5b1 with the ClamAV and SpamAssassin contribs on a custom-built box which has a Duron 1.3Ghz processor, 512MB RAM, and 2 HDs (40GB and 120GB).  The box is setup as a server/gateway.  Whenever I check memory usage via vmstat, top, or phpsysinfo, I see that 96-99% of the physical RAM is being used, but I've never seen more than 10-20MB of swap being used, and the machine appears to be relatively responsive.  My network never sees more than 4 connections to the internet (3 PCs browsing and 1 VoIP router that sits behind my SME box), which is 5M/2M Verizon FIOS.  Should I think about getting some additional memory for my box?

Thanks!

You have more than enough. Most of the memory is taken by cache, that is why it is all used.

You could work fine with 256.

I am running about the some but with some websites. I have 256 MB on a P3-800
