Hey Folks,
I know about the problem with ghosting SME hard drives. See this link
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/rmitchell/smeserver/howto/Cloning%20drive%20with%20Ghost%20lilo.conf%20fix%20HOWTO%20for%20sme%20server.htm
The issue I'm having is that I've made a 'reinstallation" diskette from the Admin menu and I'm assuming that's a "boot" disk. Is it?
When I boot from this "reinstallation" diskette is asks for the CD, I put it in and it starts to do an install. The Howto implies you put in the "boot" disk and you'll get a login, login as root , make your changes and way to go.
Has something changed since the HOWTO was done?
Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Craig

It's not the same thing. The reinstallation disk will allow the CD installation to configure the basic server parameters that were in place when you made the disk.
You need to create a boot disk which can be done a number of ways. see

Yes you didn't search the site before asking !

Thanks Ray,
Ohh, I did search the site, I allways do before I ask a question. :-) Obviously I missed this one but it had more to do with the confusion between a "Boot" disk and a "reinstallation" disk.
BUT I know now.
Thanks,

And the plot thickens.
I've created the boot disk as per Ray's Howto. Got the Hard drive cloned using Ghost 2003, went from a 20 gig to a 160 gig.
Switched the IDe cable from the old to the new HD.
Booted from the "Boot" diskette but then I get a message that the MITEL CD could not be found. If I put the CD in it goes through the install process.
I"m positive I've create a boot disk. I used rawritewin and the boot.img that where both on the SME CD. The CD was created using the smeserver-6.01-01custom.iso. I've done the SMEPLUS upgrade since then.
Any ideas what could be wrong? I'm thinking the boot disk does not match the OS on the Server but I'm sure that's the CD I used for the install. anyway I can create a boot disk off the Server?
Thanks,
Craig

Try booting in single user mode
From the powstatd howto
To start up in single user mode, press Ctrl X when you see the e-smith, Mitel or sme logo appear on the screen after a reboot. This will start the server at a lilo text prompt.
For sme version 6.0
Type:
Mitel-SME-up

Latest update,
No luck getting in with a boot disk or the single user login. Thanks Ray.
As a work around I booted with Knoppix and viewed the /etc/lilo.conf file. It had the "Mitel-SME-up" setting like it's suppose it. As a test I ran Lilo and got this error "Boot.b could not be found".
I check the boot directory and there's nothing in it!
Mystery solved. even though I'm ghosting a hard drive, it's not all getting copied over.
I"m going to muck with it some more to see if I can figure out the problem and if I come up with anything, I'll let you know.
Thanks for your help Ray,
Craig
